Leicester Music Festival.

On Saturday 26th July, Katie and I headed over to Leicester in an incredibly hungover state for the Musical Festival held at Welford Road Stadium. The main reason we had bought tickets was to support Violet Cities, who had won the Play At LMF competition.

After a messy night before, we were in the car for a 20 minute journey to the train station before getting a half hour train to Leicester. After arriving and getting lost in Leicester (and a lot of vomiting!), we finally made it to the stadium where we had a while to wait outside. We could hear Violet Cities soundchecking and it wasn't long before we were allowed in.

We were at the front of the "common people part" - aka. not VIPs - but then there were VIPs in front of us. Violet Cities opened the festival with a bang and they were absolutely amazing. In all the times I've seen them play, I have to say that this was their best performance by far and it was obvious that they were loving every second. I just wished they had been on later in the set so that more people had got to appreciate their music.

We saw the boys later on and got a free CD after congratulating them on their performance. It was so weird seeing strangers queueing up to have photos taken with them, but I'm hoping that this festival is going to make Violet Cities as big as they deserve to be.

We chilled out for a while after that, grabbed a LOT of food and drink to cure our hangover, and had a little snooze in the sun. It felt like a very long day, as the only people we had come to see were Violet Cities and they were on at 11am, whereas the festival didn't finish until 10:30pm! We thought we may as well make the most of it.

Sam Bailey was good, which was a shock to me and seeing Diversity was absolutely incredible. I had seen The Saturdays before but still enjoyed them, although I thought Labrinth was a disappointment.

All in all, it was a fantastic day. I spent too much money, ate too much food, got way too sunburnt but I had a fantastic time, made some friends and got to see a few artists that I really like.

Here's hoping that we get to see it all again next year!
