The LMF Finals.

On Friday 13th June, Savannah and I decided to head over to Streetlife in Leicester for the finals of the music competition to play at Leicester Music Festival. There were five bands competing, one of them being Violet Cities who we know.I was a bit apprehensive about going over as I had never driven on a motorway before, despite being on the road for two years, and it would be dark on our way home. We had a takeaway and ended up leaving a little late due a delay in delivery, but we still made it in plenty of time.

The other bands that were on were Casino Empire, The Strangler Figs, The Tapestries and The Furies. They were all good, but we only thought that one of the above bands might be a threat to Violet Cities. Still, we were nervous and excited, all combined in one.

After heading over and going in, the first band was already on due to us being a little late. We found out that Violet Cities wouldn't be on until 10:25, so it felt like a long night waiting for them to be on. The competition ended up running late and the boys didn't make it on stage nearly an hour after their scheduled time.

All evening, the atmosphere had been relatively dead, with the crowd giving respectful claps and a few people down the front, seemingly the bands' friends and family, cheering along. All in all, there wasn't that much of an atmosphere which contributed to it being a long wait.

Finally, Violet Cities were on and the atmosphere went crazy. Everyone rushed forward to the front of the stage, and before they had even come on, people were screaming and chanting for them. It was obvious that Violet Cities friends, family and fanbase had sold most of the tickets to the finals. Nearly everyone knew every word, and the atmosphere was absolutely incredible.

The wait between them coming off stage and the winner being announced was terrifying. It seemed to go on forever, but it wasn't long before the runners of Leicester Music Festival were back on stage with a bottle of champagne. They dragged out the results and everyone was getting frustrated. Finally, the winners were announced - VIOLET CITIES.

Everyone went crazy - screaming, cheering and crying. Sav and I were in bits crying our eyes out. The boys got up on stage for photos and popped their bottle of champagne over the crowd.

It was one of the best nights of my life and I am so glad that I was there to witness what is undoubtedly the start of something amazing for the band. They will be performing at Leicester Music Festival on Saturday 26th July, along with other acts such as Diversity, The Saturdays, UB40 and many more.

See the video of their win being announced below. (Sorry the video is so shaky, I was a crying, emotional wreck by this point... And a sober one at that!)
