Week In Clacton.

Having to head down to the South Coast for my studio experience which you can read about here, we decided to make a short break out of it by staying in Essex Monday to Friday. We decided to stay in Clacton On Sea.

We decided to book our break with Park Resorts, as we had previously stayed with them in Skegness and it was a fantastic site. We picked a caravan site called Valley Farm, which was rated as 'Clacton's only 4 star resort'.

It did not match up to the expected standards. The site itself was nice, but the caravan wasn't great. We love staying in caravans as my Nan used to have one when I was younger, but this was not up to scratch.

The toilet brush in the bathroom looked as though it had been there for years, and my Mom and Dad's bedroom door did not shut, plus was missing a handle. It was shocking. There were other minor faults such as missing paint work, bad layout in my bedroom (you couldn't open the wardrobe door without moving the bed), the heater in my bedroom didn't work, the window in my parents bedroom wouldn't open... It really wasn't what we expected. Frankly, we had previously had better caravans on a Sun deal holiday, which this was not, so we felt like we had wasted our money paying more for it.

The location of our caravan was great, as it was located right next to the little brook where all the ducks spent their time. This meant we were woken by quacking every morning, but it was such a beautiful thing to wake up to and we spent a lot of time just feeding them. There was also three little baby ducks too.

The park itself was lovely, but nearly everything was closed. I understand that most things don't run when the park is quiet, but it really was to a whole new extreme. The chip shop on site was closed every night. We later found out that they would serve the food to you in the bar if you'd asked, but there was no sign up or lights on in the chip shop to tell you. The on site hairdressers was also shut, despite the signs on the door saying their opening times. We rang the number on the door as my Mom wanted to get her hair cut, but there was no answer. This was a bit disappointing.

The crazy golf course looked old and worn. However, the amusements were really good. There was a wide range of different games for children and adults of all ages. I was impressed with it for a holiday park. The club room was lovely and large, but the entertainment guide was not specific with the times that the evening shows would be on, meaning we never went to one as we didn't want to sit through the bits before. The on site shop was large and had a lot to offer. Although the swimming pool was open at different times to in the entertainment guide, this was made clear when checking in and also appeared as a poster on the door. We did not use the swimming pool but it looked lovely.

The holiday itself was an average one. It certainly wasn't the best holiday that we had been on, but it wasn't the worst and we got done what we came to do which was my studio experience. There wasn't much to do in Clacton or the surrounding area, so we spent most of our time in the town centre shopping or in the amusements. We did go bowling one night in the Pavilion Bowl which was amazing - by far the best bowling alley I've ever been to.

Here is a video of my stay in Clacton, minus my studio day.

Overall, it was a good holiday, but I won't be returning to the South Cost any time soon!
