My Dream Job.

People often ask me questions about the job I had before I went on sick leave and why it was my dream job, so this post is going to be a little bit about that.

My job was a 'trouper' for a UK holiday park company, which is like a redcoat, bluecoat, mate - whatever you call it in the companies that you go on holiday to. The main reason that I wanted to become one of these was to perform in shows regularly.

Other aspects of the job (broken down) included:

Day Time
Clubs for children aged 0-4
Clubs for children aged 4-10
Clubs for children aged 10-15
Adult competitions
Talent shows

Another aspect of the job was character work. This is something that I had never wanted to do and thought I would absolutely hate it, but it ended up being one of my favourite parts of the job. General character work included:
Meeting children at breakfast
Check in at Reception to greet new guests
Disco time on set nights
Character shows
Party dances

We also performed four shows a week. These were:
The Feel Good Factor
Signed Soul'd Delivered
Rock Academy
Viva La Diva

The evenings were my favourite part, as performing is the reason that I applied for the job in the first place. The way our evenings would pan out is:
Kids disco - sometimes a character would be out on the dancefloor
Character show on set nights (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday)
Funtime - fun and games with the children from the stage
Party dances where a character would come out to do them
Disco time whilst bingo tickets are on sale
Bingo
Short disco break
Spot number one - either a gameshow, quiz or live act
Short disco break
Spot number two - a live act or ourselves performing in a show
Late night disco until close

I got to experience so many new things and learn so many great skills whilst I was doing this job. It improved my confidence so much and performing on stage four times a week was a dream come true for me. Performing has always been my life and right up until I did my injury, I found myself thinking at some point during every single performance;
"I can't believe I'm being paid for this."

It really is the best job in the world. If you love performing and are good with people, this is the job for you. Even if you're not good with people, this will help you so much with your confidence and ability to talk to anyone. It has helped me so much.

I'm going to leave you with a video of some of my favourite clips from my performances while I was in Newquay.

Although it got cut way too short because of my accident, I will never forget how amazing my season was. I am so grateful that somebody believed in me and my talent enough to give me such an incredible opportunity. I will treasure 2013 forever.
